Akothee attended high school at Nyabisawa Girls school, but she dropped out in Form 2 when she eloped with her now ex-husband. She later went back to school and in 2004, she sat her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at Wasio Mixed Secondary School. She posted her KCSE results slip on social media, and you will be pleasantly surprised to note that this songstress was index number 34, and she scored an aggregate grade of C+. Among the grades that stood out in her result slip is the A plain she scored in History and Government, and the D- that she scored in Mathematics.
Akothee’s career has shifted from being a taxi driver, omena vendor, to a now successful musician and businesswoman. She began her taxi driving business when she divorced with her ex-husband. The taxi driving business was based in Kenya’s Mombasa, and she earned approximately Kshs. 3000 to Kshs.4000 daily from the business. Currently, Akothee is a flourishing musician with a couple of hit-songs to her name. She is also a successful entrepreneur, owning Akothee Safaris- a tours and travels company, and an establishment – Morning Star Diani.
Akothee was born of an administrator father and a politician mother in Kisumu County.
Akothee’s love life is full of twists and turns, and stories that will make you shed a tear. It was when she was a Form two student at Nyabisawa Girls that Akothee chose to elope with a boy from the neighboring boy’s school. According to Akothee, the boy used to send her love letters that drove her crazy. Despite coming from a loving home, Akothee’s rebellious phase pushed her to elope with the man. She was then just 14 years of age. Akothee then moved in with her mother-in-law in Migori County. She served as a house girl to the mother-in-law for the next seven years.
Her parents in law then sent her away in 2000, reasons undisclosed. After being sent packing by her parents-in-law whom she had diligently served for the past seven years, Akothee moved to Kanga. It was in Kanga that she started her omena(dagaa) selling business in order to raise money for her school fees and her small family’s upkeep.
In the year 2003, Akothee’s husband finished his university education, and he and Akothee got back together to take care of their children. This gave Akothee the chance to go back to school. When she cleared her education, she followed her husband to Nairobi, and they began a very humble life together. According to Akothee, their life in Nairobi was so simple and humble that they actually received items such as mwikos and sufurias from their friends. In a surprising turn of events, Akothee husband left her in 2006 when he had just started getting wealthy.
Akothee is a mother of five. She has three daughters and two sons. The three Akothee daughters are products of her first marriage, while her sons were conceived from different relationships with foreigners.
Akothee’s firstborn was conceived when she was just but 14 years old. Her name is Vesha Shalian Okello. Akothee gave birth to her second child- also a girl when she was 15 years old. In a sad turn of events, this child passed away because Akothee could not raise enough funds to take her to a hospital when she was ailing. Akothee’s third born was born to sixteen-year-old Akothee. Her name is Celine Dion Okello, aka Celly or Rue Baby. It was in the year 2000 that Akothee gave birth to her last born daughter, Prudence Apundo.
The Akothee sons are Oyoo and Ojwang, whom she warmly refers to as Prince Oyoo and Prince Ojwang.
All in all, Akothee has a very warm and nurturing relationship with all her children. This can be seen from the way she showers them with gifts on their birthdays to the way she proudly describes them whenever she has the chance.
The thirty-five-year-old mother of five never shies away from giving the best gifts to her children. It is now customary that when the Akothee kids turn nineteen, their mother gifts them with cars, among other expensive gifts. For Vesha Shalian’s birthday in 2016, Akothee went all out by hosting a party for her first born at the five-star Sankara Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi. This was after she had taken her for a shopping spree in South Africa. The party was dubbed ‘Officially 19’. It was during this birthday party that Akothee gifted Vesha Shalian a car and a laptop.
Celine Dion Okello’s birthday was celebrated at Maisha Tamu Luxury Boutique Resort on Kenya’s coast. The blue-themed party was invite-only. Celly’s birthday also had an after party at Pata Pata Beach Club in Malindi. Akothee also gifted Celly a car on her birthday. Celly, or Rue Baby, if you may, won the Nivea Face of East Africa Competition last year, and she owes this to her mother who supported her throughout the journey. She is currently a student at Strathmore University, and she joined the private university after scoring a B- of 58 points in her KCSE.
For Prudence Apundo’s seventeenth birthday, the dashing lady was gifted a Tsavo East getaway. We cannot imagine what Akothee has planned for her prince’s teen birthdays, we can only wait.
The Akothee kids are quite well mannered, and this was recently revealed by Akothee when revealing that she has been receiving stress from relatives she took in. She continued to say that even her own kids whom she has given practically everything do not stress her nearly as much as these relatives do.
Akothee’s Instagram page also features pictures of the mum of five doing house chores with t. he Akothee children. Money is not a problem for this young mother, and she, therefore, does not skimp when it comes to spending lavishly on her kids. She reportedly pays more than 650,000 Kenyan shillings as termly fees for one of her children. She once wrote on her Instagram page,
“ONE OF MY CHILDREN IS PAYING 650K PER TERM YET THEY ARE 5, HOW MANY MEN WILL I SLEEP WITH TO COVER THIS? LOST SHEEP! START ANALYZING YOUR LIFE, ANALYZING MY LIFE YET YOU HAVEN’T MET ME! WILL MAKE YOU SICK, NOW IF YOU COME TO MY REAL LIFE YOU WILL COMMIT SUICIDE COZ SH@T IS REAL, AM NOT ONE OF THE CELEBRITY WHO POSE WITH FAKE THINGS COME SLOWLY, I WILL BLOW YOUR HEAD”
Akothee separated from her husband on October 6th, 2006. The man dumped her when he had just started getting wealthy, and he left her with three kids. He had also been involved in an extra-marital affair.
Akothee’s divorce pushed her to move to Mombasa where she joined her brother in the taxi business. The two drove the taxi in turns. It was while driving the taxi in Mombasa that Akothee met a French diplomat who was impressed by her. The French diplomat was more curious to know if Akothee had just had a baby as she had a milk stain on her bosom. She told him the truth and the man felt sorry for her. He took down her contacts and invited himself to her home. Akothee introduced him to her young family and he then invited them to West Africa where he was working. Akothee admits that this man helped her financially. He offered to expand her taxi business, and she took the opportunity to venture into the tour operation business. While she was with this man, she managed to open a bar, The Stomp 196 in Shanzu, and he bought her the first van in Akothee Safaris. They moved to Switzerland but she felt that Akothee wedding this man was not going to happen and the man only wanted kids from her, pushing her to move back to Kenya when she was 9 months pregnant. She came back to Kenya and started her music career.
